Dear Friend of Citizen Advocacy, DID YOU KNOW THAT . . . -Citizen Advocacy of Washington County is the only advocacy program for individuals with developmental disabilities in southeastern Wisconsin? -There are over 1,000 individuals living in Washington County that could benefit from having an advocate to stand beside them? -Developmental disabilities include Cerebral Palsy, Asperger Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder (AD/HD), and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as well as Down Syndrome? -Some citizen advocacy partnerships are with groups of individuals advocating for a single partner? -The average life span of a typical advocacy match is more than 12 years? And some matches last a lifetime? -Citizen Advocacy of Washington County receives no funding from any state or federal agency? -Every Citizen Advocacy match is done with scrupulous care, sometimes taking over 100 hours of staff time? -As many as 7 out of 10 individuals with developmental disabilities are sexually abused? -The majority of individuals with developmental disabilities over the age of 45 are not able to read? -Advocacy isn’t a time commitment, but a heart commitment?
